“Businesses should pledge financial commitments to improve gender equality”

In this video interview, Geoffrey Williams, Director/Head of Diversity & Inclusion, EMEA, at Thomson Reuters, speaks to Dana Denis-Smith, CEO at Obelisk Support, about leadership and gender equality in the legal industry.

Denis-Smith has had an expansive career; from working as a Reuters journalist, then onto work as a lawyer at Linklaters—and has in recent years become as an esteemed entrepreneur within the legal sector.

Obelisk Support, which Denis-Smith founded in 2010, provides legal work to law firms and in-house teams using its large crop of experienced ex-City lawyers. The business’ unique flexible working model permits its lawyers, specifically mothers, to work on client projects around their family or other personal commitments—and has subsequently gained industry wide recognition.

Throughout this inspiring interview, Denis-Smith shares her thoughts on how to turn the dial up on gender equality in the workplace; offers advice for aspiring female leaders; and, we also hear about her First 100 Years project. The project celebrates the centenary of the Sexual Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919 which paved the way for women being able to practice law in the United Kingdom.
