Every aspiring lawyer has to navigate a number of interviews, which present an opportunity to impress hiring partners and show them why you’d be a great fit for the firm. In this series, we look at some of the most common interview questions that applicants will face, and our expert team from Herbert Smith Freehills demonstrate what makes a good or bad answer – and why.

This week, our trainee tackles the question of whether they see themselves as a follower or a leader? This response impressed our hiring expert, Samantha Brown, a partner at Herbert Smith Freehills.

This thoughtful answer included an insight into the candidate’s personal history and interests, but displayed obvious preparation as to what the employer would be looking for, in response to this question.

Don’t forget to check out the rest of our series on how to impress in training contract interviews, and other careers advice for lawyers here. Don’t forget to share your interview tips, pitfalls and experiences at @TRLegalUKI.
